Motorola q8 (GSM) is soul-mate of Motorola q8 (CDMA). Phone body is almost 100% same but the color is totally different. If Motorola q8 CDMA using silver color as main and black color as keypad. Motorola q8 GSM using black color as main and Silver color as keypad.

Operating system also different, In Motorola q8 CDMA it’s using windows mobile 5.0. Motorola q8 GSM using windows mobile 6.0 (upgradable to WM 6.1) You can search on google the step to upgrade it at your own risk. If you’re asking which one better of course WM 6.0 better than WM5 when I tested both phone battery there is a lot difference around 35%-50%. Wm6.0 also more responsive than WM5.

When test motorola q8 GSM stability I found sometimes phones hard to dettect an provider signal. I’m nor sure this is bug from software or hardware but sometimes I can’t send short messages to my friends when I’m in Mall or busy place.

Morotola q8 GSM is an smartphone for everyone need an personal touch on it. You can change almost everything including fonts on this phone. If you need more you can go to windows mobile app store to find more software to make this phone fit your needs.

About the Internet, Motorola Q8 GSM is just standard like cheap phone out there, It’s using EDGE and not support for 3G network. Just there is one thing I love from this phone, It’s have an automatic wizard on Internet settings. You don’t need to ask or looking for information to get connected on Internet.

Camera is standard 1.3 Mega-pixels (it’s same like Motorola Q8 CDMA). If you need TV or WI-FI you can get SD cards support for this. This phone is recommended for student or professional which need and personal digital asistant to help their daily activity.

Gee Mobile Evdo modem is the cheapest evdo modem available for now.

I buy this modem for only 450 IDR or it’s equivalent with $50 USD. There is 2 model available, First Gee Mobile EVDO Rev.A frequency 800/1900 MHz (this working with Smart-Telecom as evdo provider) Secondly Gee Mobile EVDO rev.0 frequency 800 MHz (cheaper, it’s working with AHA/Bakrie-Telecom as evdo provider).

When I look on gee mobile hardware I don’t see any changes inside it. This modem hardware id and product id are completely same with Venus vt-18 (I will review it soon) mostly all this cheap evdo modem coming from same vendor but when they in the market they change it’s brand.

I have bad experience when using gee mobile. On the first 4 days after I received this modem it’s really hard to find the EVDO signal. After 5 days finally I got evdo signal, but the problem is gee mobile dialers not working when I change it to evdo mode.

Bored, I send it back to seller and he replaced it within new one. And finally this one already 4 months and still working fine. So if you’re want to buy this product make sure their warranty for at least 1 year (I mean replaced warranty) because this modem cheap I think there some bad product and there some good product.

When I try to install this modem on windows XP and Windows 7 there is no problem I meet, only for windows 7 you have to install it with different technique. When I try to install this modem on linux ubuntu I meet problem because this modem couldn’t set to evdo mode, even it detected 1x mode I still can’t connected to internet.

Many people says cheap modem = bad product. Not this one, I try to use this modem for 24 hours non stop and it still working with good performance. Signal is really accurate, if compared with Haier CE100 this one better. I don’t have any tools to check the modem temperature but I fell temperature is almost same with other expensive modem.

Standard dialer for this modem is really bad. Because it’s cheap the dialer is really bad and there is no support for it. I’m searching on google about this vendor website but I didn’t found anything. The problem is when you’re using netbook, dialers will working strange. It will hide some button we needed to used for connecting. Anyway I used reshacker tools to hack dialer resource.

Gee Mobile Spesification

This day CDMA technology are greater than GSM technology in data transfer. That’s the reasons why there so many people are hunting for CDMA modem more than GSM modem (because it’s valuable I think). I already have CE100 for 9 months already, today I decide to write review for CE100 in stability and performance.

Haier CE100 comes in 2 packages, locked with some CDMA operators only and unlocked for all CDMA operators. You can read detailed information about CDMA and EVDO from wikipedia pages.

This USB modem style just standard almost same with another USB modem. I already compared this item with GeeMobile modem (I have 2 EVDO Modem, maybe next articles I should write about GeeMobile) Haier CE100 temperature is more cool than GeeMobile. Usually I used this modem for 18 Hours a day until today it’s stay cool.

Haier CE100 comes with default dialer (autorun from USB stick) you can use this dialer to change your net mode example: CDMA1x RTT or EVDO or HYBRID (modem will try CDMA1x+EVDO and choose which one the best based on signal quality). Of course for dialing you can choose to use default dialer or windows standard dialer, it won’t change your downstream rate and upstream rate once you set your modem mode. There is a little bug in this dialer software, Signal sometimes not accurate, it’s always starts 100% and then going lower and stay in (mostly) 60%. For better analyzed for signal I prefer you to use QPST and QXDM software.

What included inside the Haier CE100 package? When you buy this device the standard package are Haier ce100 USB MODEM, USB cable extension cable, manual book, warranty card, CD-Drivers, and sometimes it’s included the RUIM card from your providers.

How about quality for this product? All I can say for this 9 months using this modem to work and browsing the internet I satisfied with Haier Ce100 performance result, even sometimes EVDO provider giving low speed for internet access it has nothing to affect this modem performance.

Haier Ce100 Specification:

* Frequency: 800MHz / 1900 MHz
* USB Modem (USB 2.0 compatible with USB 1.0/1.1)
* CDMA 2000 1x, EVDO Rev A 1900mhz
* Speed: max Download 3.1mbps,Upload max 1.8mbps
* Support RUIM
* Internal memory Micro SD slot
* Voice and SMS through computer
* Support Operating System: Windows XP/2000/Vista and Mac OS (Windows 7 Manual drivers)
* Dimension 78mm x 28mm x 12mm
* Phone Type : USB Stick/Mini USB Modem

This Motorola might old for some people, Anyway I still not found there is any CDMA phone in market better than this Motorola Q8. This Motorola Q8 are using Windows Mobile 5.0 completed with infrared and blue-tooth. With only 750.000 IDR to 1.100.000 IDR you can have this smart phone! (cheap but really useful).

On the left side you will find Micro-SD slot (up to 4GB), infrared and mini USB. On the right phone there is scroll button and undo button. On the top there is earphone port. Motorola Q8 are fully QWERTY button, battery is li-ion 1,130 mAH you can find extended battery on eBay (recommended).

Inside Motorola Q8 there is standard application, this is included: sms and email, Internet explorer, windows media player for mobile, task scheduler, etc. You can buy and install more application on this Motorola Q8 as long app are compatible with windows mobile 5.0 example facade, java emulator, candlelight, facebook for windows mobile and many more, check the store in here.

When I try this Motorola Q8 performance I’m slightly disappointed I think this phone would be faster. But it was wrong, this phone has delay 1-3 seconds (depend on how much app you’re running in background). Anyway it not really interfere.

Motorola Q8 cdma are ev-do already, you can enjoy the fast speed experience on Internet using this smart phone as modem. Motorola Q8 is ev-do rev.0 mean the maximum downstream is 2.4Mbps.

Camera included in this Motorola Q8 is 1.3 megapixel, included flash. When I tested it inside room the picture quality are little blurry, but when I tested it on sunny day (outside) the picture quality are great! so this camera is just standard, don’t hope to much.

What bad about this Motorola Q8? There is only one I think… this phone is using injected number, mean we can’t change phone number easily like another (mostly) Nokia phone. This might not a big problem for people in good country out there, but in here this is bad because not every operator would allowed inject system.

Motorola Q8 Specification:

Network System : Inject CDMA (800 / 1900 MHz)

Display Type : TFT (Thin Film Transistor) technology

Display Size : 320 x 240 pixels, 65K TFT

Display Features : QWERTY keyboard, 5-way navigation button and thumb wheel

Ringtones Type : iMelody, MIDI, MP3, AAC, WAV, WMA, WAX, QCELP

Bluetooth : Yes

Infrared port : Yes

USB : Yes

Operating System : Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0

Camera : 1.3 mega pixel camera with flash

Other Features : PIM functionality with Picture Caller ID Advanced

speech recognition and speakerphone

Battery : 1130 mAh Li-Ion battery

Battery Stand-by : 200 hours

Battery Talk time : 4 hours

I would give score 7.5 from 10, for Motorola Q8 CDMA

Another new device from the HTC roadmap is a CDMA-version of the recently announced HTC Touch codenamed Vogue. Id remind you that the company announced the release of HTC Touch early in June. It is peculiar for the touch control the finger instead the stylus, and it can work in GSM networks only. The CDMA-version (HTC Vogue) features enhanced functionality against HTC Touch.

This unique Windows Mobile phone sports a compact body with a clean design and soft-touch finish. This device sports a large touch display with HTC’s TouchFLO software for finger-based access to key functions. Other key features include a 2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, Java, EVDO data, streaming video, and a memory card slot

Some new smartphones from HTC have been going by lately, showing that this company has more surprises prepared. One of them is a CDMA version of the recently released HTC Touch phone. This device will come under a new name, that of HTC Vogue, although it pretty much packs the same performances.

HTC Touch has long been seen as an iPhone killer device, a pretty appealing tag placed on it, considering the fact that few other devices have managed to live up to the challenge of competing with Apple’s only phone. HTC vogue, just like HTC Touch, packs the same high performances, as if they were the same device, just under different names. Oh, wait, they are.

That’s great news actually, as everybody will be able to enjoy what HTC Touch has to offer, no matter their network. You’ll have the same 2.8 inch touch sensitive screen with evolved TouchFLO capabilities and 5-Way navigation control. Moreover, it will come with 240 x 320 pixels resolution and support for up to 65,536 colors.

There will also be a 2-megapixel camera and Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity. HTC Vogue will also have Windows Mobile 6 Professional installed and come packed with a 200 Mhz processor.

HTC Touch CDMA Specification:

Networks CDMA 1x-EVDO RevA, 800/1900 MHz
